Originally the Law Offices of Kathleen M. Stout and thereafter Stout, Wagner & Kaufman LLP, Stout & Kaufman was formed in 2009.

Today, Jody M. Kaufman, Attorney at Law and a Workers' Compensation Legal Specialist is the principal and lead attorney of Stout, Kaufman, Holzman & Sprague. Since being admitted to the bar in 1999, Ms. Kaufman has earned the respect of her Santa Barbara, California Workers‘ Compensation sector colleagues, including applicant‘s attorneys, Worker‘s Compensation defense attorneys, and judges.

Prior to assuming her current role with Stout, Kaufman, Holzman & Sprague, Ms. Kaufman worked as an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Kathleen M. Stout from 2002 through 2006. As an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Kathleen M. Stout handling Workers‘ Compensation matters in and around Santa Barbara, Ms. Kaufman had the unique and privileged opportunity to learn the ins and outs of Workers‘ Compensation matters through a mentorship by one of Santa Barbara‘s all time most experienced, dedicated, and respected Workers‘ Compensation attorneys, Kathleen M. Stout.

Today, following closely in Stout‘s footsteps through her work with Stout & Kaufman, Ms. Kaufman puts forth a knowledgeable, dedicated, experienced, and charismatic approach to each and every Workers' Compensation case she undertakes.

As a resident of the greater Santa Barbara area for over four decades, Ms. Kaufman not only understands the unique and complex interworking of Workers‘ Compensation related matters, but understands Workers‘ Compensation matters in the context of the greater Santa Barbara community.

Ms. Kaufman graduated from Laguna Blanca School in Santa Barbara and thereafter attended the University of Southern California (USC). Ms. Kaufman graduated Cum Laude from USC with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in business and minoring in environmental studies. Thereafter, Ms. Kaufman earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles in 1999 and was admitted to the State Bar of California the same year.

Almost immediately after being admitted to the State Bar of California, Ms. Kaufman founded a non-profit legal service organization in Santa Barbara known as the Santa Barbara Teen Legal Clinic. The purpose of this organization was and is to provide youth in Santa Barbara with free legal representation on a wide array of legal matters and to educate them about their legal rights and responsibilities. Today, Mrs. Kaufman leads the Santa Barbara Teen Legal Clinic with it’s current focus on providing restorative justice practices as an alternative to the traditional juvenile criminal justice systems through the Tara Haaland-Ford Restorative Justice Project.

To date, with over sixteen years of experience in handling Workers‘ Compensation cases as a licensed attorney, Ms. Kaufman has successfully represented hundreds of injured workers in obtaining Workers‘ Compensation benefits. In April 2004, the Workers‘ Compensation system faced serious challenges as a result of drastic changes in California‘s Workers‘ Compensation laws. Even with these challenges and obstacles hindering workers and their ability to obtain Workers‘ Compensation benefits, Ms. Kaufman has still managed to consistently achieve positive results for her clients through her knowledgeable, compassionate, and experienced approach.
